The Parks & Recreation Department works with 4 Active Boards that focus on the mission to improve the quality of life within the community by providing activities, facilities, and opportunities for enhancedphysical, mental, and social health.
Applying to serve on boards and committees
Township residents can request to serve on a board or committee by filling out an Application for Board Appointment and submitting to the Parks & Recreation Director. Pending vacancies, the respective board and/or committees will conduct an interview of the applicant and make a recommendation to the Board of Supervisors for appointment.
Parks & Recreation Board
The Parks and Recreation Board acts in an advisory capacity appointed by the Board of Supervisors on park development and recreation programming. This seven-member body is responsible for directing the Parks & Recreation Department in the development and administration of policies, programs, and facilities. This Board meets the 1st Wednesday of each month at 7:15 p.m.
Greenway Committee
The Greenway Committee is an advisory body consisting of seven members appointed by the Board of Supervisors. its primary function is to prepare and implement the Township's Greenway Plan. The Greenway Committee is seeking active members to help identify, develop & maintain natural trails, promote walkable opportunities, and connect with project partners for greenway implementation. The Greenway Committee meets the 1st Wednesday of each month at 5:30 p.m.
Arts Council
The Arts Council has been established to develop arts and cultural policies jthat will promote and support the arts, encourage participation by people p of all ages, and create an environment in which art experiences are an integral part of community life. The Arts Council is seeking active members to fulfill their mission, raise awareness and appreciation of art in Lower Paxton Township. The Arts Council meets the 1st Wednesday of each month at 4 p.m.
Community Engagement Committee
The Community Engagement Committee's primary function is to serve as a resource to its parent bodies in their attempts to secure funding and community volunteerism. Members of the CEC are appointed as representatives from our other Township committees, councils and commissions. Each representative helps to coordinate a community network to preserve, maintain, and beautify our parks and open space. The CEC meets the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 4 p.rn.
