July 14, 2018

It is with heavy hearts that the Lower Paxton Township community, including the Board of Supervisors, appointed officials, municipal staff, and the general public, mourn the passing of Supervisor William (Bill) B. Hawk.  Bill passed away during the evening hours this past Friday.

Bill held the Office of Township Supervisor since January 1, 1996.  He has served as the Chairman of the Board and as Chairman of the Township Authority.  At the time of Bill’s passing he was Secretary of the Board of Supervisors.

Bill served as a member of the Executive Board of the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors (PSATS) holding multiple Board offices.  As he passed, Bill was President of the Association, leading an organization representing 1,454-member townships throughout the Commonwealth.  With PSATS, Bill served on the Board of the National Association of Towns and Townships.  He also served on the State Planning Board and the Governor’s Advisory Committee.

As a Supervisor, Bill was actively involved in the development of the Friendship Center; worked to resolve sanitary sewer and transportation issues; and shared his wisdom in the implementation of the Comprehensive Plan and update of the Zoning Ordinance.  Bill’s background in municipal finance was invaluable as the Township undertook multiple capital improvement and public infrastructure projects.

In addition to serving our community as a Township Supervisor, Bill has held the elected/ appointed offices of Chairman of the Lower Paxton Township Republican Committee and President of the Colonial Park Rotary Club, as well as a member of all Masonic organizations.  Bill was a Dale Carnegie instructor for more than 30 years.

Bill was a graduate of John Harris High School and Lebanon Valley College.  Bill and his wife Miriam Wiker (Billie) founded The Hawk Gallery & Framing Studio, which they operated for over 20 years.

Bill had two children and two grandchildren. He was a member of Faith Immanuel Presbyterian Church, where he was active on the Church Board.

Lower Paxton Township will miss Bill Hawk and his generous contributions of time and talent to our community for more than 30 years.
