Ashley Surgeoner, a Lower Paxton resident and volunteer basketball coach, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 17, 2025 at UPMC Harrisburg Hospital at the age of 37. Ashley was the loving wife of Dan Surgeoner for the past 11 years. She leaves behind two amazing children, whom she cherished more than anything, Anna, age 9 and Paige, age 6. Ashley loved being a mother, and it was evident in everything she did. It was truly her purpose.
Ashley had a passion for helping. She was a Girl Scout leader, a basketball coach, track and field coach, and a helping hand whenever it was needed. Ashley was involved in many aspects of Saint Catherine Laboure school and church. She was kind, loving, brave, compassionate, ambitious, and could make anyone laugh. Ashely will be missed infinitely by all those that knew and loved her.
Ashley was one of our amazing volunteer coaches (170 coaches in total) through the Township’s 2025 Brightbill Basketball league for the pink team – girls ages 8-9. One of her assistant coaches shared, “Ashley was willing to be the head coach for her daughter and the girls who did not have a team. Some of these girls had never played basketball before and none of the girls played together before. Ashley included all team members and helped build confidence in each girl. She was always friendly and had a smile even though we lost all our games. With the help of Ashley and our other coaches, we improved our score each game and lost by less. Ashley helped each player focus on her strengths and as a team we came together. She was a great coach and leader for our team the girls named the Pink Flamingos. “
Ashley truly embodied the essence of coaching, and we will miss her terribly along with her team and coaches. To learn more about the memorial in support of her daughters, please contact Megan Fackler, the Administrative Assistant of St. Catherine Laboure School at mfackler@sclhbg.org.
