[ARCHIVED] Meet Michael Gossert

Michael Gossert new Lower Paxton Township manager

Lower Paxton announces new Township Manager

Our new Township Manager, Michael Gossert, joined our executive leadership team earlier this month. His connection to public service began at an early age with his parents’ involvement in the local Lions Club chicken BBQs and American Legion events. He later joined the Marine Corps after high school serving four years. He then pursued his Bachelor of Science in Public Policy from Penn State University and later earned his Masters in Public Administration from Shippensburg University.

His investment in public service continued through his time as a volunteer firefighter in Franklin County. In fact, he earned his undergraduate housing provision by serving as a live-in at the local fire houses. He was both a credentialed EMT and firefighter.

Michael began his municipal career as a Planning and Zoning Officer in his home county of Franklin. He was well-suited to the role and aspired to become a manager. He succeeded by becoming the Township Manager for Hampden, which shares similarities with Lower Paxton in population size and scope of budget.

When asked what he believes makes Lower Paxton distinct in the Central PA region, he noted that we have a bustling suburban community with an urban feel. Further, our proximity to the State’s capital lends to our economic stability and continued growth as one of the largest and fastest developing municipalities. We also have the benefit of high-quality schools and convenient roadways with access to all the nearby metro areas like D.C., Philadelphia, and New York.

Looking ahead in Lower Paxton, he plans to ensure that AI technology gets integrated into our daily work, helping to keep our Township relevant. He seeks to provide staff with appropriate AI training to build a necessary knowledge base and operational efficiency.

Finally, Michael enjoys a variety of leisure pursuits including golf, fishing, and sporting clays. You’ll also find him smoking meat and manning the BBQ grill with family and friends.
