[ARCHIVED] LATEST UPDATE: Public Advisory – Water Quality Concerns

water quality advisory graphic

Monday 6/30/25 update from Veolia:

"Veolia crews are continuing to address a discolored water issue that has affected Marysville, Susquehanna Twp, Lower Paxton Twp, and Swatara Twps. While crews worked last week to correct the problem, we are still receiving reports of discolored water today, suggesting discolored water may be trapped in pockets within the system.
In response, crews are conducting spot flushing in areas with the highest concentration of calls, based on the call data collected. Veolia maintains its standard procedure of collecting and testing water samples. We can confirm that no bacteria has been detected and the water continues to meet drinking water standards."

Additional Friday 6/27/25 update from Veolia:

"Veolia’s Operations Team is wrapping up the major system flushing. We have seen positive results throughout the process, but there may still be pockets of cloudy water present in some portions of the system. If you continue to experience cloudy water that will not clear after running your cold water tap for 5 to 10 minutes, please call our Customer Service Team at 888-299-8972 so we can assist you."

Friday 6/27/25 update from Veolia:

Veolia says the flushing is yielding positive results, but they are still getting a few calls about discoloration. Veolia plans to focus on Forest Hills and working down Colonial Road today (6/27), and then on East Park Drive making its way into Swatara.

Our crew has sampled at several locations and the water clarity has improved.  However, we are aware that there is still discoloration in some areas and there is still work to be done.

Our crews will continue the flushing efforts today.  The areas of focus today will be Marysville, portions of Lower Paxton (Forest Hills down Colonial Road) and portions of Swatara Township around East Park Drive. Customers in those areas will receive a notification through our mass notification system about the flushing efforts.

Flushing is a disturbance in the system.  This means you may continue to have discolored water while the flushing is taking place. Please allow 24 - 48 hours for your tap to run clear as we continue these efforts. Running your cold water for 10 - 15 minutes after the flushing occurs in your area should help clear any discoloration.

If, after that time, you are still experiencing an issue. Please call our Customer Service Team at 888-299-8972 so that we can evaluate your situation individually.  If you call after hours, an answering service will take your message.

Thursday 6/26/25 update from Veolia:

Veolia is aware that discoloration is still impacting customers.
Crews will be flushing the Marysville area again today (6/26) and will continue flushing portions of Lower Paxton Township (this may impact customers along Linglestown Road in Susquehanna Twp). Flushing is scheduled to begin mid-day.

Crews have been working around the clock to try to rectify this issue. After the flushing occurs, it will take time for the water to run clear as water works its way through the system and into your home.

During the flushing, you may experience temporary discoloration or low pressure. To clear discolored water, run your cold water tap for 5-10 minutes. If discoloration persists after 24 hours, please contact our Customer Service at 888-299-8972. We apologize for the inconvenience.

======================================================================================

Lower Paxton Township is aware of the ongoing concerns regarding discolored water within the Veolia Water system. Please be assured that the Township has been in direct communication with Veolia representatives regarding the issue.

At this time, Veolia has confirmed there is no leak or system failure affecting water volume or pressure. They are actively flushing the system in impacted areas to help resolve the discoloration. In addition, DEP, PUC, and PEMA have been notified and are actively monitoring the situation.

  • Veolia asks any customer experiencing discoloration in their water to contact Veolia Customer service at 888-299-8972.

Lower Paxton Township will continue to monitor the issue closely and will provide updates as more information becomes available.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as this matter is addressed.
