GIS Summer Intern
Sewer Department

Lower Paxton Township Sewer Department is accepting applications for the part-time position of GIS Summer Intern.  The successful candidate will be assigned to various duties both in the office and in the field.  This is a paid internship opportunity estimated to last throughout the summer of 2019, through the month of August, depending on school schedule and candidate availability.    

Essential Job Functions
   • Collect GPS location data for various sanitary and storm sewer surface features.
   • Conduct site inspections on commercial properties and collect impervious cover measurements.
   • Independently coordinate the processing, organization, and transfer of collected data to the Township’s consultant for inclusion in the Township’s GIS Database.
   • Organize files and electronic records as requested by the Township.
   • Data entry of information into established databases.
   • Perform duties in outside weather conditions where they are occasionally exposed to heat, wet/ humid conditions.
   • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time with a handheld GPS unit.
   • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
The following are minimum qualifications for the position:
   • Candidates must be at least 18 years old and have completed one year of college.
   • Experience with the field collection of data points using GPS data collectors.
   • Knowledge of Microsoft suite of tools required.  
   • Possess a valid driver’s license. 

The following are additional preferred qualifications for the position:
   • Undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in a degree program with a major in Geographic Information Systems or a related field.
   • Experience with Trimble handheld GPS units.
   • Experience using TerraSync Professional, Pathfinder Office and/or ESRI ArcGIS software.

Lower Paxton Township
School Crossing Guard Position(s)

Lower Paxton Township is anticipating one part-time position and several others to establish a “reserve” list of candidates willing to fill in when calls offs occur. 

Description:  Guide or control vehicular or pedestrian traffic at such places as streets, crosswalks and school properties.
Requirements:  Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Be able to perceive potential traffic hazards
- Be sufficiently agile to move quickly to avoid danger
- Be able to comprehend and communicate fluently in verbal and written English
- Be legally eligible to work in the United States
- Be at least 18 years of age
Additional Qualifications:
- Must be a U.S. citizen or a current permanent resident card
- High School Diploma or possess a state equivalency diploma
- Not be convicted of a felony.  Must not have any misdemeanor connections involving moral character, false statements, perjury or domestic violence
- Must pass a routine occupational health exam at the applicant’s expense
- Must be able to work with children of all ages and high volume vehicular traffic
Salary: $12.00 an hour for the 2019/2020 school year

Part Time Maintenance Person (Custodian)
Friendship Center

Requisition No. 33-4001-10-19        Minimum Hourly Rate $15.25

Lower Paxton Township Friendship Center possesses a vacancy in the part-time position of Maintenance Person (Custodian).  An employee in this position performs manual work involving the cleaning and light maintenance of the Friendship Center, including simple repairs to fixtures, furnishings, and equipment.  An employee in this position is required to apply judgment based upon training and work experience.  He/she works independently under general supervision.  The Maintenance Person reports to the Facility Manager who has overall responsibility for building maintenance.  This is a union position.

A copy of the job description relative to this position, which includes the nature of work to be performed and the qualifications for employment, is available upon request.  The rate of pay for the position shall be in accordance with the AFSCME Clerks & Custodians collective bargaining agreement.

Regularly scheduled shifts for this position are:

Week 1:  Sunday 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., Saturday 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Week 2:  Sunday (off), Saturday 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

Minimum Education, Experience, and Training Requirements:  Graduation from high school or an accredited equivalency program preferred but not required.  Must possess the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions in the English language.

Other Requirements:  Current PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police record check, and FBI background check are required.

Part Time Service Desk Attendant
Friendship Center

Lower Paxton Township Friendship Center possesses a vacancy in the part-time position of Service Desk Attendant.  An employee in this position greets and assists members and visitors to the Friendship Center; responds to inquiries, both in person and over the telephone; conducts tours of the facility; issues locker keys; processes payments and issues receipts; and provides basic clerical services to include data entry.  He/she reports to a Facility Manager.  This is a union position.
