Volunteer
The Parks & Recreation Department relies on a strong volunteer base to provide programs and services to the residents of Lower Paxton Township. Our volunteer opportunities range from getting your hands dirty in our parks to assisting our staff with recreational activities or events. Volunteering is a great way to earn service hours while impacting our environment and community! Volunteer opportunities consist of the following categories:

Board Members – The Parks & Recreation Department works with the following Boards, Parks & Recreation Board, Arts Council Committee, Greenway Committee and the Community Engagement Committee. Occasionally there are vacancies on these boards, but the public is welcome to attend these meetings as well. Click here to Apply for a Board.
Basketball Coach – The Brightbill Basketball League is a recreational basketball program for boys and girls ages 8-15. The season commitment is two days a week Mon – Thurs., from mid May – first week of August. More Information available here.
Internships – Internships with the Parks & Recreation Department consist of many positions. These positions may be specifically created for a special event or need within the department, or may be an ongoing position. Internships will have an agreed upon task or tasks and duration of the position to be arranged with management and intern. Examples may include Marketing Assistant, Volunteer Coordinator, Special Event Planner, or Park specific projects. Email Rachelle Scott for more information.
Special Events – Special Event volunteers assist with any special, one time, or annual events that are sponsored or hosted by the Parks & Recreation Department. These volunteers will assist in with various components of the event, from set up, to implementation, and cleaning up the event. These are fun opportunities to get involved and make connections in your community! For more information, click here.
VIP (Volunteers-In-Park) – These volunteers are interested in doing service projects in our community parks, neighborhood parks or trails. These projects consist of helping our Department beautify the parks & trails through clean up days, trailblazing, wildlife habitation creation, or gardening. To sign up, please click here.

Volunteers for trail maintenance must be ages 16+. Volunteers will clear brush and trees, help construct new trails, clean up litter and more! Long pants and long sleeves recommended. Bring your favorite tool, gloves and safety glasses.
