Approximately 100 volunteer firefighters provide fire protection services to the Township's more than 47,000 residents and hundreds of businesses. These volunteers are members of the Colonial Park, Paxtonia, and Linglestown Fire Companies.
The Board of Supervisors expresses its appreciation and gratitude to our firefighters for their continued dedication to Lower Paxton Township.
Equipment
The Township equips its firefighters with millions of dollars of modern equipment, which is used in responding to about 1,500 emergency calls a year. Our volunteers respond to calls 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. They are highly trained and operate technically complicated equipment. The only difference between our volunteers and paid firefighters in other communities is the rate pay.
Volunteer Hours
Although our volunteer firefighters responded to over 1,500 calls in a typical year, This figure does not include time spent in training, fund raising, equipment maintenance, and company operations and management. In total, it is estimated that Township firefighters provide at least 50,000 hours of volunteer service annually.
