Sanitary Sewer Infiltration & Inflow Problems

Infiltration and inflow (I&I) of clear water into the sanitary sewer system reduces system capacity during wet weather events and can cause manholes to overflow, adversely affecting our local environment.

Since beginning its I&I Program in 1995, the LPTA has spent 100 million dollars. The I&I Program has been approved by PA DEP in the form of a new Second Consent Decree and Settlement Agreement, which were approved by the Commonwealth Court on June 13, 2002, as amended.

The estimated cost to implement the I&I Program is 25 million dollars over the next 3 years through to 2033.  Plan components include:
