Project Underway to Repair I-81 Interchange Ramps with Mountain Road in Lower Paxton Township
Repair and resurfacing work also includes a portion of Mountain Road

Harrisburg, PA – A nighttime project to repair the ramps between Interstate 81 and Mountain Road at I-81 Exit 72 began this week in Lower Paxton Township, Dauphin County. The project also includes the repair and paving of most of Mountain Road between Route 22 (Allentown Boulevard) and Blue Grass Avenue.

Construction work began Monday night, June 13. PennDOT has contracted with Pennsy Supply, Inc. of Annville, Pennsylvania, to conduct the highway improvement project at a cost of $3,364,199. The early work involves the removal and replacement of mountable curb on Mountain Road (State Route 3019) and two of the interchange ramps. There are several drainage inlets that will be adjusted. Extensive concrete patching should begin in mid-summer.  The ramps and most of Mountain Road within the project limits, which are currently concrete pavement, will receive a blacktop overlay. The overall project is scheduled to be completed by mid-April of 2017.

Motorists are advised that no traffic lane restrictions are scheduled to occur during the day between 6 AM and 8 PM. The work is being conducted during the overnight hours. During the course of the project, it will be necessary to close a ramp and detour traffic as construction crews work on that ramp. No more than one ramp will be closed at the same time. Motorists should be alert to the possibility of a ramp closure and detour during the overnight hours between 8 PM and 6 AM. The contractor currently intends to work six 10-hour night shifts per week, from Sunday night through Friday night.

Motorists are advised to be alert for construction activity in this area, to obey work zone signs, and to slow down when approaching and traveling through work zone, not only for their safety, but for the safety of the construction crews.
