PROGRAM/FACILITY MANAGER
$28,000-$31,000 D.O.Q.
Lower Paxton Township (population 45,000) is seeking an experienced individual to join the management team of a community center in an active and growing municipality. Responsibilities include: customer service, activity coordination; employee supervision; facility management; rentals; budget; maintaining records; inventory. The applicant should have a bachelor’s degree in recreation or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in recreation, parks, facility management or supervision is required.
Nature of Work:
The Duty Manager is responsible for overseeing the operation and maintenance of Friendship Community Center facilities. This includes the proper handling of customer issues; formulation of operational procedures, facility marketing, equipment inventory; facility cleaning, maintenance, scheduling and security; supervision of other full and part-time staff, coordination of rentals, membership use, program activities, budget preparation, reporting, and purchasing.
The Duty Manager serves as the manager-on-duty during regularly scheduled periods of time. This position reports directly to the Recreation Manager, who reports directly to the Director of Parks and Recreation.
Examples of Duties:
- Monitor a broad range of programs and services to ensure that the varied leisure demands of the public are being met. Evaluate program and staff effectiveness, as well as customer satisfaction.
- Ensure a safe and secure building environment for staff and participants. Conduct safety inspections as directed and needed. Handle emergency situations according to prescribed directives.
- Manage and direct operations and staff by following a plan and schedule that provides customers with a high level of satisfaction and service. Conduct staff evaluations, develop performance standards, and determine necessary operating controls.
- Develop and conduct in-service training programs designed to improve employee technical knowledge, communication skills, and customer service.
- Collect and disseminate information to customers, staff, and superiors regarding all aspects of facility operations.
- Assist with budget preparation for annual operation of the facility.
- Be primarily responsible for one or more of the following service areas and personnel: babysitting, service desk, fitness center, aquatics, or rentals.
- In consultation with the Recreation Manager, maintain policies and formulate procedures governing facility operations.
- Make decisions after properly communicating with other managers and staff, and in accordance with applicable policies, rules, and regulations.
- Prepare specifications for and purchase equipment and supplies according to the Townships’ Procurement Procedures.
- Collect data, analyze information, prepare reports, and compose correspondence.
- Operate a personal computer and other common office equipment possessing alphabetic and numeric keyboards at a standard level of proficiency. Operate a two-way radio.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected and appointed officials, other employees, volunteers, and the general public.
- Attend meetings as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
Desired Knowledge and Ability:
- Knowledge of and experience with recreation programming
- Knowledge of policies, procedures, rules and regulations regarding operation of a multi-use recreation center or athletic club.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of personnel administration.
- Knowledge of emergency medical procedures.
- Knowledge of business English, spelling and arithmetic.
- Knowledge of modern office procedures and practices, including data processing and computer operations.
- Ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written regulations.
- Ability to use good judgment in the application of rules and regulations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with and positively address concerns and inquiries from public officials, Township employees, volunteers, facility members, program participants, and the general public.
- Ability to detect, analyze, and prepare solutions to problems relating to the operation of the municipal recreation center.
Minimum Qualifications:
A degree from an accredited college or university in recreation or closely related field, and two years of full-time experience in supervision and management of fitness/wellness facilities and services. Other combinations of education, on-the-job training, and experience will be considered in lieu of that required.
Certifications in CPR and first aid preferred.
Certified as a park and recreation professional preferred.
Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.

Sewer Department
Maintenance Mechanic I
Lower Paxton Township, Dauphin County, PA is seeking a full-time Maintenance Mechanic I in its Sewer Department.
This is a position that involves skilled manual work for maintenance and construction operations in sanitary sewer systems. Work involves the use of a large variety of hand tools, both power and manual. Some examples of work include repairing sewer lines, inspecting and repairing sanitary sewer equipment, directing traffic, flushing sewer lines, and related Sewer Department activities. Maintenance Mechanics are required to possess a Class B driver’s license as a condition of employment upon successful completion of a six-month probationary period. One year experience as a general laborer is required. Training or experience in sewer maintenance and pumping equipment is desired.
Starting hourly rate of pay is $13.18, increasing to $14.54 upon completion of probation. The Township provides employees with an excellent benefit package.
