Chief's Welcome

Chief

Welcome to the Lower Paxton Township Police Web site. The Lower Paxton Township Police Department continues its commitment to providing professional police services to our community. Since the Department’s creation in 1958, our mission has remained unchanged: “ensure the preservation of peace and the highest quality of life in our community”. While the Police Department’s core mission has remained unchanged, the manner in which we accomplish that mission has not. The Department takes great pride in being a “learning” organization. As our community continues to evolve, the Department responds by identifying and implementing innovative policing methods to effectively adapt to the changing conditions.

In 2006 the Department implemented a three-year patrol staffing plan designed to improve the organization structure, set staffing levels, and establish community policing as our core principle. From 1958 to the present, the size of the Department has grown steadily to its current strength of sixty-one sworn police officers. The Department is now comprised of three operational divisions: Patrol Services, Field Services, and Staff Services. The current staffing level includes the Chief of Police, three lieutenants, six sergeants, five corporals, thirty-seven officers, nine detectives, six civilian Community Service Officers, and six civilian Records Office employees.

The additional officers and implementation of the Vision 2003 three year plan have had an impact on the community. For the third consecutive year, the number of reported traffic accidents in the township has decreased. The number of crimes reported in 2006 increased slightly but less than the national average. The number of crimes cleared and criminal arrests increased at a higher rate than the crimes committed. The number of requests for police services also increased in 2006 by more than 2,000 calls.

I hope you will find our Web site a valuable resource in the ongoing partnership between the Police Department and its citizens.
