PSA-Teen Mobilization

In February and March, police will be visiting schools around Pennsylvania to talk to teens about the state’s new seat-belt law.  Violating this law is a primary offense, which means that all vehicle occupants under 18 must be buckled up or the driver can be pulled over and cited for just the seat belt violation, and will receive at least a $60 fine.  Police will be writing seat-belt tickets to save lives. So do the right thing and buckle up.

Brought to you by PennDOT and the Lower Paxton Township Police Department.

Lower Paxton Township Police to Participate in Seat-Belt Enforcement

The Lower Paxton Township Police Department has announced seat-belt enforcement activities as part of a teen-driver safety enforcement mobilization, from February 14th through March 4th.  The law enforcement activities will be conducted at Dauphin County Technical School and Central Dauphin East High School.  This enforcement initiative will also include enforcement being conducted on roadways leading to and around the schools in and near Lower Paxton Township, Dauphin County.

January 31, 2012 - Lower Paxton Twp. Police were contacted yesterday by the family of a 92-year-old Township man who lost a large sum of money to a scam.  The senior citizen resident was contacted via U.S. Mail by a man claiming to represent the “Master’s Lottery” based in San Francisco.  The victim was told that he had won the lottery and that he had to send $2450.00 plus fees via Western Union to Jerry Roberts in Brooklyn, NY to claim his winnings.  The victim sent $2626.00 from a Western Union terminal at the Weis on Jonestown Rd.  When the family discovered this, they contacted the Master’s Lottery customer service number, which had a Quebec, Canada based area code, and spoke to a man who identified himself as “John”.  John hung up on them when they inquired as to why the number they called was in Canada.

Citizens are warned that they should never respond to letters, e-mails or calls claiming that they have won a lottery they did not play and that you do not send money via Western Union to claim your winnings.  If you do receive such solicitations, either ignore them or contact your local police department for guidance.

Police are investigating an attempted burglary which occurred yesterday evening in the Forest Hills development.  A resident of Stoneleigh Court discovered that her front door had been pried when she returned home at about 9:00 PM after only being gone since about 5:30 PM.  Entry was not gained by the burglar because the deadbolt held.  There was significant damage done to the door.

A burglary was also reported on Doris View Dr. in the Mountain View Acres development that probably occurred Tuesday but was reported yesterday.  The home was forcibly entered and credit cards stolen.  The resident did not realize that his home was burglarized until he discovered the card missing.  This burglary is very similar to one that reportedly happened the same day in the 2200 block of Parkway West.

August 25, 2011 - Lower Paxton Twp. Police are investigating a residential burglary reported yesterday evening.  The residents of a home located in the 2200 block of Parkway West reported that their residence was forcibly entered while they were away between Monday morning around 10:00 AM and when it was discovered yesterday at about 6:30 PM.  Items out of place and other damage in the home were at first attributed to the earthquake.  However, upon closer examination, the homeowners realized that they had been burglarized.  They are still taking inventory of their belongings, but, preliminarily, it appears that a firearm and a laptop computer were taken.

Unrelated to this burglary, burglary attempts are still being reported in the southeast portion of the Township.  Two more were reported yesterday in the 7000 block of Scenic Ct. To date, there have been three actual burglaries in this area since the first were reported on the 19th and there have been sixteen attempts reported.  It has been difficult to establish the actual dates of the attempts due to the fact that most of them were discovered because either the residents or the police checked after the others were discovered.
