TRAFFIC ACCIDENT STATISTICS

The Department investigated a total of 921 traffic crashes on Township roadways in 2011. A breakdown of the total number of the crashes yielded the following results: 352 Reportable crashes* and 569 Non-Reportable crashes. Two crashes resulted in the fatalities. In contrast, the Department investigated 845 crashes in 2010, with the same number of Reportable crashes investigated.

The Department responded to 351 crashes that occurred on private property, such as parking lots. Although not required by law, Officers assisted motorists in exchanging information and documenting those incidents.

* Reportable Crash – A Crash that occurrs on a highway or trafficway that is open to the public by right or custom and involves at least one motor vehicle in transport, where there is an injury or death and/or a vehicle is damaged to the extent that it can not be driven under its own power in a customary manner and therefore requires towing.
