Each summer the Department sponsors and presents the Lower Paxton Township Youth Police Academy. Participants in the academy meet daily for one week. Students receive training in a variety of law enforcement topics, to include history of policing, evidence and crime scene processing, patrol work, investigative techniques, traffic enforcement, and firearms training.
Students experienced weapons qualifications and witnessed demonstrations by the Crisis Response Team. At the conclusion of the academy, each participant leaves with a greater understanding of the police career and its associated demands and rewards. The success of the program has guaranteed its continuation. This project has become one of the greatest community outreach programs for the Community Policing Unit along with the Citizens Police Academy.
