The final draft of the Lower Paxton Township Greenway Plan is now complete. This Plan has been prepared in response to public input obtained during the preparation of the Township's Comprehensive Plan. From this planning process, it was determined that there is significant public interest in greenways - essentially improved paths to walk or bicycle to destinations in our community. In fact, greenways were one of the most requested items named within the Comprehensive Plan.
The Greenway Plan is now being reviewed and processed as an amendment into the Comprehensive Plan. This review and approval process will take at least 45 days to complete. The approval process includes public meetings by both the Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors.
Once the Greenway Plan is approved, work will begin to implement the plan and construct individual greenways as recommended therein. First and foremost in this effort will be the submission of additional grant applications to the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources requesting funds for greenway construction.
For additional information regarding the Greenway Plan contact the Director of Parks and Recreation, Brian Luetchford, at 657-5635.
Preparation of the Greenway Plan was funded, in part, through a $25,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
